Here is the first in a planned series of excavations of what Shawn and I used to refer to as “the Archive,” or the many thousands of e-mails exchanged between us starting in July 2015. The early days were mostly about him bringing me up to speed on what he had discovered—eventually it became that any stray thought or calculation related to Crypto-K either of us had was noted and sent to one another as a matter of preserving the record. After a while we began to marvel at what we had created together just by way of incidentally communicating over the years, and would dive into the archive of messages often, re-reading again and again as a source of entertainment or inspiration. The e-mails began trailing off in 2023 and stopped altogether in 2024, and since Shawn’s death in May, reading through them has seemed to me a sad archive of the past.

Stepping out of my grief though, I began to realize that this is not a dusty archive, but a glittering vault full of hoarded treasure, and my feeling is that there is no better content to share exclusively to the honorable paying subscribers of this website, honorary Cryptokubrologists all of you, than a curated glimpse into it, the endlessly fascinating raw material that makes up the Vault of Crypto-K.
